Academic Support
The Akin Learning Center is the hub of academic life at Kents Hill with an "open door" policy for help and support. The Learning Skills Program combines curriculum-based tutoring, executive skills training, and social-emotional awareness to help students thrive in all aspects of school life.
Learning Specialists partner with students every step of the way and ensure that they are prepared to tackle college and beyond with self-confidence, self-determination, and self-advocacy.
Level 1
- Two-on-one support.
- Regularly scheduled meetings with a Learning Specialist during the academic day.
- Individualized learning plan focused on strengths, opportunities, and reflection.
- Open-door support during flex time, free periods, and evenings.
Level 3
- Weekly meeting with a Learning Specialist.
- Individualized learning plan focused on strengths, opportunities, and reflection.
- Open-door support during flex time, free periods, and evenings.
Level 2
- Small group support (fewer than 4 students).
- Regularly scheduled meetings with a Learning Specialist during the academic day.
- Individualized learning plan focused on strengths, opportunities, and reflection.
- Open-door support during flex time, free periods, and evenings.
English Language Support
Two levels of English Language Support are available for students looking to improve their English language skills In the first level, students work one-on-one with a Learning Specialist. In the second, students receive support from a Learning Specialist in a small group setting.
